You’ll also have the benefit of an annual service check by one of their engineers to ensure that your boiler is working safely and efficiently.

Does Homecare cover just my Boiler and or my Central Heating System or are there other things in the home which British Gas can help with?

There are four levels of the product conveniently named British Gas Homecare 100 through to British Gas Homecare 400. Starting at the lower level they deal only with your boiler and controls. If you increase the monthly payment by upgrading you can then add (in order) your central heating system, plumbing & drains and then ultimately Home Electrics. These additional items can also be taken as stand alone services.
As an example if you wanted your boiler covered and also your home electrics you would take Homecare 100 plus the Home Electrical Cover.
These sort of plans seem expensive – I’m sure a local plumber will be cheaper
If the plumber is properly trained and has excellent references, and is available when you have your emergency then they may be cheaper – it is your decision. An advantage of this type of plan is that you know the standard of service you will receive from a Gas Safe registered British Gas Engineer whenever you call them out. Remember the manned customer breakdown line is available 24/7. Your boiler breakdown may come late in the evening when your local plumber is asleep!
